Greetings Citizens,

Since we on this vein of thought, what is the funniest/ugliest/most pathetic death you ever had?

My PCs have had some memorable ones, but the one that truly stands out in my mind is the night the Lost Souls invaded the landing, and was imploded so bad, my PCs corpse plunged into TSC, a smouldering charred lump of flesh.

Khaladon still has burn scars...

I have many strange deaths that stand out in my mind. The one I remember the best is when Terate came to Icemule with his "Bloodrain". I being a young inquisitive sorcerer of Fash'lo'nae, had to see this Terate person...I walked out the south gate and the very next instant my body parts were all over the place and I was flying in the air back toward TC....    Never did get to see him...

Meni~

I'm sure you all also remember that night when death mechanics were turned off (I can't recall the reasoning) and most creatures were unable to attack. Well, massive pyrothags could still attack for some reason. The funny thing was that most folks were just walking around without spells on because the creatures were just wandering around. Well, when they came across massive pyrothags and got killed by the clubs they died, immediately decayed, appeared at the altar...and then went flying a random direction as pyrothag clubs are known to do to you. It's really funny to see...

So and So just appeared on the altar looking a bit confused.

So and So is picked up by the blow, flying east!

And how many times have you been stunned and barely escaped the stun to stance defensive...and with 1 health left the creature strikes you for 1 point of damage and kills you? Don't you hate that?

Just thought I'd share all these interesting experiences. ;)

Yeh, I remeber doing some absurd amounts of damage to a undead with fu before. A long time a ago though. My stupidest death has to be when I tried to throw someone, man, it was so long ago I can't remeber who, and I promptly broke my own neck on a fumble.  The stupidest chain of deaths were when the magic vortex was running around, I was killed by one the sulpher traps on a box I was picking, got healed and raised, was sucked up by the vortex while still stunned from the rezz, was drained of my spirit points, rotted, landed at the altar, stepped outside to some crazy sorcerer that was testing out implosion in town (don't ask why), was killed by stray acantha leaf, then sucked up by the implosion, and landed in town square ready to be healed again. Needless to say, it was a bad 10 minutes of a bad, bad night. Well, it would have been if I hadn't been laughing so hard.

-Nido Uvari, who has made so many characters and died so many ways, it isn't even funny.

Erm..

Pretty much all of my deaths are pathetic.. but I think the current reigning champ of funny out of them all was Sylanae vs The Canyon Wall.

Watch and laugh..

(Sylanae takes a running start.)

[d100 == 81]
You climb the canyon wall but fail to clear the lip of the ledge, lose your grip and plummet to the rocky floor below.......
You hit hard.
2 Concussion points.
You are badly stunned. [11 Rounds]

Belsebrak gestures and utters a phrase of magic.

Tyraesa gazes up into the heavens.

Belsebrak gestures at you.
You are no longer stunned.

You say, "hmph... that didn't help"

Tyraesa pulls you to your feet.

[d100 == 71]
You climb the canyon wall but fail to clear the lip of the ledge, lose your grip and plummet to the rocky floor below.......
You hit hard.
4 Concussion points.
You are badly stunned. [13 Rounds]

Belsebrak gestures and utters a phrase of magic.

Tyraesa says, "looked more like ya ran into the wall, instead of up it"

Belsebrak gestures at you.
You are no longer stunned.

You stand back up.

 [d100 == 88]
You climb the canyon wall but fail to clear the lip of the ledge, lose your grip and plummet to the rocky floor below.......
You hit hard.
1 Concussion points.
You are badly stunned. [10 Rounds]

Belsebrak gestures and utters a phrase of magic.
Belsebrak gestures at you.
You are no longer stunned.

You say, "I need dexterity or something"

Tyraesa pulls you to your feet.

You frown.

Tyraesa gestures and utters a phrase of magic.
 Tyraesa gestures at you.
You suddenly feel much more dextrous.

You nod.

You exclaim, "Now I'll make it for sure!"

* Sylanae just bit the dust!

[d100 == 28]
You climb the canyon wall but fail to clear the lip of the ledge, lose your grip and plummet to the rocky floor below.......
You hit hard.
14 Concussion points.
 ... 50 points of damage!
Blow to your head removes your skull. That's got to hurt!

The wall of force disappears from around you.
You no longer feel so dextrous.
The buzz of thoughts in your mind subsides.
The very powerful look leaves you.
The white light leaves you.
The deep blue glow leaves you.
The light blue glow leaves you.

It seems you have died, my friend. Although you cannot do anything, you are keenly aware of what is going on around you...

You mentally give a sigh of relief as you remember that the Goddess Lorminstra owes you a favor.

...departing in 10 mins...

Trust me when I say things like that are a normal occurrance..

- Silly

PS The funniest almost killed someone incident was when I was on Thanatoph and ran across Jamousii, we got to talking and he said something and I tickled him - not realizing that would automatically make him go into a laughing fit and he'd laugh himself clean off the mountain. I was completely horrified! I found him, healed him up and apologized profusely, to which he gave a wink and let me know he didn't hold a grudge. In whispers he told me he still hadn't stopped laughing.

I was in the middle of a verbal battle with a follower of a light god in stone sentinels. It came to a blow from them, which I elgantly dodged- I ewaved them, pinning them down.

I laughed at them, saying something along the lines of " Behold the power of chaos" and right before i struck them down a sentinel walked in and stoned me right in the eye killing me.

I think there was some silent Irony to that:)

My friend, a rogue, ironically got his head torn off by a locked box that was just found on one of the ghoul masters bodies

Speaking of implosion fun, I saw someone get neck critted by flying yellow socks when someone rubbed an amulet imbedded with implosion in TSC...I could barely run away I was laughing so hard after I saw that.

Erm...anyone know how this discussion got into the Solhaven Hunting Areas topic?

No matter how many times I see that canyon log, it never gets any less hysterical.

Here's my own slice of comical death.

I had been standing in North Market in Solhaven talking to a few friends. Someone came in and asked if anyone would set a ring to thunder trolls & wind witches for them (since at the time, it was impossible to climb down there at any age you still actually learned from those). I agreed -- thinking to myself "just a quick ring to the lake, and a short walk across the valley, no problem." Reminded by one of my friends that my spells had just melted, I think my exact words before running off with the gold ring were "Bah, they won't be able to catch me."

And then THIS happened.....

[Vornavian Coast, Foggy Valley]
A monolith carved out of a boulder that erupts from the surface here dominates the northern side of the path. To the southeast, the path descends into the swirling, thick fog which blankets everything to the south.
You also see a pra'eda, some tattered rags and a vesperti.
Obvious paths: west, southeast.

>

* Tyraesa just bit the dust!

>w
A vesperti points a clawed finger at you!
A vesperti stares into your eyes.
 CS: +235 - TD: +94 + CvA: +2 + d100: +87 == +230
Warding failed!
The vesperti suddenly transforms into a horridly grotesque image, inducing utter terror in your soul!
A gut-wrenching fear twists deep into your soul.
Tyraesa turns pale then falls limp to the ground, killed by some inconceivable fear!

I do think my one friend is STILL laughing...

Tyra :)

Like Sylanae, my list of unglorious deaths is uncomfortably large. (That log was hilarious!) Here are a few samples:

In the newbie category:

I had told my friend who introduced me to the game that rats were nothing, I was too mighty for them! She took me hunting down in the cats and I kneeled to skin. She told me it was a myth that kneeling to skin helped. (And it was back then.) But of course *I* knew better and rats were nothing! A rat came in and killed me.

In the greedy moron category:

I was in revenants in RR. Back then (dunno about now) you could sell their half plate for 600 silvers a piece! That was a huge fortune to me! So my disk and cloak was full and I was trying to make room for "just one more". Somehow I got mixed up about what I was doing and ended up with a flower in one hand and a sack in the other. Needless to say, the next revenant that came along made quick work of me. I almost decayed because of that too, someone stumbled over me when I only had a couple minutes left. I was just hoping he never took the time to actually look at what was in my hands.

In the always be aware of your surroundings category:

I was hunting with Katt in Bonespear. We hadn't been hunting there many times yet, so it was all still exciting to me, especially since I was major feared a lot. We were doing really well and out of sheer exuberance I typed in "jump". The next thing I knew, I was flinging myself off the tower, to land impaled and dead a long ways below with the little guy on my FE window showing the largest red dots possible on every possible body part.

In the you see it coming but can't do a thing about it category:

I hadn't been hunting in Pinefar in probably about a year. I had gone up to Mule for some reason and while there I figured what the heck, I'll go on up to Pinefar for some fun. I found my first seeker and killed it and was feeling pretty good. Climbed a slope and walked on a bit and saw my next seeker. It immediately boiled me. As I lay there with the 8 or so round stun, I saw the snow above me on the mountain break loose. The wall of snow came rushing towards me, and all I could do was watch. The avalanche hit me and I ended up in a crumpled dead heap somewhere farther down the mountain.

In the "with friends like that" category:

I was exploring the tunnels in the remodeled AI. Not giving things much thought (obviously) I put up a couple basic spells and pulled out my dagger for parry DS (no shield). After all, they are just little bitty wraiths and I'm a big bad cleric in her 60's. Well, I had forgotten that little tidbit about them casting bolts. A wraith bolted and stunned me. (Oh yeah, no armor on either, I had on my nice silk shirt.) The next wraith came in and bolted me dead while I was still stunned. So I get a MASSIVE amount of locates, I'm sure from other people in the AI who wondered what big beast was invading. Of course all they saw was my corpse and two wraiths.

Drexla, who I had just passed by a few rooms ago, comes to my aid laughing hysterically. She fogs me to town and offers to raise me there, "to avoid any more embarassment". All the while she is thinking on the net about my death. (I did feel better when I was informed that the same thing had happened to Xeldria not too long before my death.)

Thanks everyone else for posting. I got many good laughs reading them!

One funny death was how Prestius and I met in the game. To make long story short, I stumbled upon his dead body in Darkstone, fogged him back, mocked him (of course), and got him raised. Then when he came to thank me, I was growing herbs for someone esle. Suggestion, do not cast and talk at the same time. Being the amazingly clear headed person I am, I typed in 719 instead of 119. Promptly DCed and killed myself right in front of him at Hearthstone steps, although I couldn't stop laughing in person, I was throughly embarrassed in both player and character. Then met him a few days later at Vegascon and laughed about the whole scenario. :)
