Deeds
Deeds are essential if you want to live a long life of adventure in Elanthia. Each town has its own location in which deeds can be obtained, with many of them having a unique puzzle. I am not going to tell people how to solve the puzzles, but I will give a few hints to assist new adventurers in learning the ropes.
First I would like to stress that everyone should have at least three deeds for basic protection. While you can squeak by with less than that, all it takes is a couple mishaps in a row to abruptly bring your life to an end. There are many an adventurer who can tell you that bad luck often visits in streaks. If you have less than three, get deeds before you venture forth.
What it takes to get a deed will vary by location. Keep in mind that the more deeds and trainings you have, the better the offering must be. (To see information on the religious aspects of getting deeds click on Temple and then read the Varevice section.) Each person must do a bit of experimenting to discover what Lorminstra considers to be an appropriate offering.
I will list the basics of what I know for each town and then you can take it from there.
Wehnimer's Landing
Deeds can be obtained in the Temple and at Hearthstone Manor. The temple is a unique way to get deeds with gems, scarabs and silvers being appropriate. Gems are valued more than silvers are. Hearthstone uses the "drawer" system where all sorts of odds and ends can be offered.
Icemule Trace
Icemule uses a drawer system, found near the Temple. (Explore!) Skins can make a nice offering for a young adventurer when other items may be difficult to obtain.
River's Rest
The Rest has a peaceful pool of water that is very special. I have not obtained a deed there before. I have heard it is a very neat way to get deeds, so go give it a try!
Solhaven
I have not obtained a deed in Solhaven yet and have not discussed it with anyone who has, so you are on your own until I take time to give it a try.
Teras Isle
This puzzle to gain deeds was not fully solved until sometime around 1999 or so. I believe it was Trachten who finally cracked it. People thought it was broken because it didn't always work, when in actuality no one had ever figured out the final key pieces. There are extremely few, to no people currently in the game who understand the full puzzle.
I finally attempted to do this puzzle in the summer of 2002. I did end up getting a deed, but I am not sure I actually solved it in a way where I truly understand why that worked and all my previous attempts had failed. The entrance to the deed area is hidden in the Temple.
Beyond that I will only say that many high value gems are required and the process is a long and involved one. So only try it if desperate or you have the time to devote to the adventure (and frustration). (To put it into perspective, I spent the night in the deed area and finished the next day, though some have had better luck.)
The puzzle has once again been brought to the attention of the GM's now that Teras has a guru. It is hoped that he will look into the extreme cost of obtaining a deed and also the workings of the puzzle to see if it can be tweaked to make it more logically solvable.
Zul Logoth
Zul Logoth has a unique system that is rather complex, but can be figured out with a bit of patience and paying close attention to the clues given to you. Deeds are obtained in the Temple of Eonak, but in order to gain entrance, you must visit a different place first. Gems are appropriate offerings but I do not know if other types are acceptable. Ask the local townspeople.
Ta'Illistim
Of the places I have obtained deeds, Ta'Illistim has to be my favorite. The location is the Hall of Patrons. Keep in mind that unlike most other places, not everything is done in one room in the Hall. (Took me quite a while to make that realization!) I know that gems are acceptable offerings and that scarabs and gold dust are not.
Ta'Vaalor
Ta'Vaalor uses the drawer system. Look for it in a lovely setting on the east side of the city.
